The Importance of Roller Conveyors in Rolling Mills and Equipment Inspection

Modern rolling mills are evolving towards continuous, automated, specialized production with high product quality and low consumption. In the future development, rolling mill equipment is expected to undergo significant technological improvements, and its application scope will continue to expand. A rolling mill is a mechanical device used to accomplish the metal pressing process, mainly composed of rollers, coiler roll bearings, frames, track beds, roller adjustment devices, upper roller balancing devices, and track changing devices.

In the production units of rolling mills, roller conveyors are crucial equipment for mechanized production, especially in the production units of sections and bars, where they run through the entire production line. Roller conveyors are a common type of equipment in the entire rolling mill plant, with conveyors in each section. The effects of roller conveyors vary depending on their position.

Conveyor roller is one of the most numerous and problematic equipment on the rolling mill production line due to the continuous nature of rolling mill production. Any roller not turning on the rolling mill production line will cause intermittent production. The traditional structure commonly used in medium-sized and larger rolling mill production lines is the umbrella gear transmission track supported by bearing seat, which, however, results in considerable downtime losses.

Roller conveyors do not have a variable speed mechanism. The transmission relies on universal joints connected to a variable frequency motor, and some are non-powered roller conveyors. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the design of rolling mill conveyors, making them variable diameter, such as the turnover roller conveyor at the entrance and exit of the rolling mill.

After the rolling mill undergoes a strip breakage treatment, the equipment should be inspected. After changing the rollers, carefully inspect the surface quality of the coiled steel. For coils with weld seams, the marking of the weld seam orientation should be accurate and clear. Before passing through the rolling mill, reduce the rolling speed for sections with weld seams. Slow rolling is essential for coils with identified defects.
